Multimodal Transportation

In the field of Inland water transportation we are instrumental in opening up the Calcutta - Allahabad waterway by undertaking transportation by barges of over dimensional cargo packages of up to 400 Tonnes of the IFFCO Anola project more than 10 years ago. In the process we established the navigability and viability of this route.

To achieve overall economic growth refineries are expanding their capacity and new refineries and power projects are being set up and due to advancement of the technology size of equipments have increased compared to earlier equipments and transportation of such huge and heavy equipments is a big challenge to the Logistics Service Provider when there is a still lack of development of proper infrastructure for transportation of such jumbo sized equipments. Selection of proper mode of transport is very important and considering various limitations on road transport and in view of safety of the equipments and to speed up the transportation whole thrust is on multimodal transportation. Urmila own a barges and tugs for this purpose. Urmila has designed and constructed Ro-Ro jetties at following 13 locations for undertaking heavy lift discharge operations and has inhouse expertise for construction, maintenance and ro-ro operations :-
